ELDORET HOSPICE
Welcome To Hospice Website PDF Print E-mail

The Eldoret Hospice is registered as a Company limited by Guarantee. It was eshtablished in 1994. It is a non-profit making organization, providing palliative care without expectation of payment. There is a membership, made of friends of the hospice, who have no shareholding or directorship position. The organization exists to transform the experience of dying for terminally ill patients and their families. Our core mandate is to add life to days, and not days to life for patients for whom curative care is no longer viable.

The hospice operates from its own building, which is very modest. The hospice centre building is a one storey building, and comprises respite rooms, a day care centre rooms, clinics and office space.

The staff at the Eldoret Hospice, despite being very vibrant and objective-oriented and result based, still need to be strengthened by recruiting additional staff to increase efficiency and effectiveness. The staff are responsible for the co-ordination and implementation of the day to day activities of the hospice.

The hospice ideal was a fairly novel idea when initially introduce in the region. The culture of the people is such that talking of death, or even contemplating it, is taboo; however with time, the hospice ideal has been accepted by the community, and is much appreciated.
